Faith - Melanie Ellison Sonnet

Our lives are filled with trials and much care,
Which on our own cannot be overcome.
Their prevalence tends to tempt us to despair,
And so to hopelessness we oft succumb.

An answer to the bleak, persistent facts,
Is nowhere near, nor is a change in sight.
A bitter heart in dissonance reacts,
With, “How could faith be succor for my plight?”

Now faith is being sure of the unseen,
Without it, it's impossible to please
God, Who is competent to intervene.
By trusting, what He promised we shall seize.

The Scriptures call for faith in our great God,
Who blesses those who in faith daily plod.
